AVIATION TECHNOLOGY AND AIRCRAFT ENGINES – FROM DESIGN THEORY TO OPERATIONAL PRACTICE

"Aviation Technology and Aircraft Engines – from Design Theory to Operational Practice" Summer school was held by Samara University from July 17 to July 24, 2023. The educational program was compiled by the head of department of Aircraft Maintenance Georgy Markaryantc. The study part consisted in both: theoretical foundations of the design of aviation equipment & engines and the application of knowledge in practice.

The summer school started with a tour to the Aircraft Engines History Center and a class on the Design of Aircraft and Their Engines that was brilliantly conducted by Ilya Leikovsky - engineer of the Construction and Design of the Aircraft Engines Department. Then students continued to study the Design of the Aircraft and Their Engines together with design engineer of the Scientific Center of the Gas Dynamics Research - Hamza Adenane. The second and third study days were devoted to Technical Diagnostics and Maintenance of Aircraft. Denis Kiselev conducted lectures and showed modern technical support for modeling and monitoring the technical conditions of aircraft.

The most exciting and memorable event was a visit to the training airfield of Samara University. On the first day, Dmitry Shcherbo conducted a tour around the airfield. Participants of the Summer School were able to see the engine start of the An-2 airplane, the lowering and lifting of the nose of the supersonic aircraft Tu-144 , the engine start on the helicopter Mi-8 and students tried the role of a fire brigade and started water from a fire truck.

The second day was marked by training sessions on aircraft control systems that was provided by Vladimir Pokazeev - assosiate professor of the Aircraft Maintenance Department. Moreover the students independently carried out the engine start of the Tu-154M airplane, the release of slats and flaps and the lifting of the interceptors! By the end of the day, the closing ceremony and giving the certificates for successful completion of the international summer school to participants took place right on the airfield! All students were awarded by 2 ECTS cerificates for successful completion of the summer school.

The summer'23 will be remembered for a long time by the participants, volunteers, lecturers, organizers and everyone involved in the program!
