In this lecture, students will learn about the global political system, how it has developed since the end of the II World War until today. They will firstly learn about the main political actor, the state, provided the monopoly of the use of force, sovereign, allowed to control its frontiers, produce national policies and shape policies. Then they will understand why and to what extent states agree to cooperate, producing international and regional organizations, as well as international political regimes; they will also explore those factors which impact the propensity of states to converge their policies and to combine their performances.

The result is a unique human rights grammar, which this course shall discuss and question, examining the sources of human rights, the rights of individuals, the duties of States, and the mechanisms of protection.
