HOW TO PRODUCE ENGINES

Production and Testing of Aircraft Engines Summer School was held online in autumn’22 and was conducted on-campus for the first time in summer’23. The program is carried out by Dmitry Uglanov - professor of Aircraft Engine Theory Department.

The academic program was divided into theoretical lectures and practical sessions. Students boosted their knowledge in combustion chambers and turbines in the Aircraft Engines History Center with rocket and aircraft engines around the class. They researched the history of development of engines as well as studied their construction. Aleksey Zhidyaev - senior lecturer of Engine Production Technology Department - explained the production technologies and additive technologies in 3D labs of Samara University. Moreover, students learned the intensification of heat transfer in engines and their systems, automation and
regulation of gas turbine engine control, dynamics and strength of aircraft engines.

Students attended the training airfield together with other summer schools and implemented their knowledge on authentic aircrafts and helicopters. They started the engines, walked through the cockpit and the cabin of the supersonic airplane Tu-144 and started the blades rotation of helicopters!

The cultural program consisted of excursions to the Smart House of Butterflies, Museum of Aviation and Cosmonautics, tour around Samara city etc. Students attended the ethnographic museum at school № 3 and visited the master class of knitting Russian folk dolls ‘martenicnki’. The volunteer team prepared some extra activities for the students to explore the Russian way of life and Samara city itself every evening. So guests from China visited Samara’s local beaches, came to the old city center, went on a cruise on the Volga river and other activities.

Students were awarded with 4 ECTS certificates for the successful completion of the summer school and were gifted 3D printed airplanes as a present from the Summer School Team.
